Porsche Panamera will strut its 'unique' stuff from 2009
Published: 28 May 2008
Porsche has taken a leaf out of the Maserati Quattroporte and Aston Martin Rapide books, and is now set to deliver its all-new Porsche Panamera four-door coupe in 2009. Bet you can't wait.
Similar to Marmite, Charlotte Church and mobile ringtones, the all-new Porsche Panamera may just be another thing to add to the list that divides both opinion and rationale. However the Porsche Panamera just won't go away.
Humans inherently hate things they don't understand - Scientology and Tom Cruise for example. So it's our job to explain. As is crucial to the Porsche-buying demographic, girth, performance and tales about both are key to ensnaring, and the Panamera doesn't disappoint in any department.
Coming with three, rear-wheel-driven and all-wheel engine choices – a wink-worthy 300bhp 3.6-litre V6, a satisfying 405bhp 4.8-litre V8 and a whopping 520bhp 4.8-litre Turbo – the four-door Gran Turismo is in excess of five metres in length, two metres across and tips the scales at 1,800kg.
The entry level 3.6-litre V6 will cost the beholder €80,000 for the pleasure; thrust €125,000 to Prosche and you'll receive the top-line Turbo AWD variant. Sales are likely to begin after the Geneva get-together, yet only the V8 models will be available at launch. 2010 is the date to circle on your future calender if you fancy the V6, and 2011 if you're holding out for a hybrid variant. Yes, a hybrid.
Pencilled-in to make its world debut at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show, the Panamera will commence its production line life the following month according to sources close to the German manufacturer, while Porsche is starting to bolt the Panamera together in April 2009.
And the performance saloon market won't ever look the same again. Porsche's artsy words not ours, but it's got a point.
Having created a big-boned Cayenne-shaped luxury SUV to – it's fair to say – a mixed reception, the automotive God in Stuttgart has again seemingly taken leave of its senses, and posed this Gran Turismo question that will garner all manner of responses. Some of which we might me able to legally print.
People in mock-Tudor houses shouldn't throw stones, you just know the Porsche Panamera is going to complete Cheshire life
