2008 Audi TT awash with PPI tuneage trickery
Published: 30 May 2008
The German automotive sorcerer going by the name of PPI has waved its magical performance and styling wand and produced a show-stopping 2008 Audi TT 2.0-litre FSI Turbo. Not for the first time, PPI has weaved its white magic on a fine performer pulled from Ingolstadt's very own bag of tricks.
Previously PPI worked something akin to aesthetic and technological voodoo on the 2004 Audi TTS, whereas this time it's turning its mojo to the latest incarnation of the TT, creating a one-off body kit that holds the gaze like nothing else. An expressive front apron lip spoiler brings the TT as close to the ground as decency will allow. Also from a frontal perspective, an innovative windscreen spoiler heroically foils the wind flow's attempts to effect aerodynamicism.
PPI's well-thought out side skirts seamlessly link the Audi TT's nose-to-tail cohesion. To the rear, and the coupe's quadruple-tailpipe sports exhaust system sits snugly within the PPI rear spoiler and diffuser configuration. Every exterior PPI enhancement is essentially carbon-fibre manufactured, and further additions manifest themselves as door mirror housing and tail panel fascias.
Whilst labouring over the TT's look, the tool-meisters from Swabia, Germany settled on introducing its own single piece, black Formula 19” alloys, and wrap them in 235/35 Michelin Pilots to aid and abet traction. With regards suspension, the Audi Coupe had 30mm chopped off its ride height courtesy of yes – you guessed it – PPI-branded sports springs being adopted.
Peer through the glass and all the hallmarks of PPI's presence are noted. From its 'Identity' steering wheel to personalized floor mats, the motorsport tuners territory is left well and truly marked. Carbon fibre, walnut, leather or alcantara interior swathes and trim fitments can also be opted for to add feel to the look.
The Audi TT's 2.0-litre Turbo FSI engine hasn't got away unscathed either. You'd feel cheated if it had, as what's well arranged style without a dollop of substance. The PPI performance kit has eeked 245bhp out of the power plant, serving up 269 lb-ft of squint-worthy torque between 1,800 and 5,000rpm. As a result, 62mph is observed in 6.3 seconds, whilst full whack is nannied at 155mph.
