Volkswagen Caddy Maxi and Crafter go from strength to strength
Published: 21 April 2008
For the second successive year two leading-lights in Volkswagen's commercial vehicle range have scooped a double whammy of accolades at a leading industry awards ceremony.
First up, new kid on the Volkswagen commercial vehicle block – the February 2008-launched Caddy Maxi – strolled off with the Best Compact Van rosette, whilst the Volkswagen Crafter was adjudged for its contribution to the Van Derived Chassis Cab scene.
The Professional Van and Light Truck Magazine's annual awards applauded the Caddy Maxi's ability to effortlessly plug the gap between the Caddy and the larger Transporter load-shifter which, thanks to its extended 2250mm length over the Caddy's 1781mm, allows tradesmen to convey their ladders site-to-site inside the Caddy Maxi's confines.
What's more, the Caddy Maxi is considered one of the most comfortable rides in the LCV sector since its recent launch. And this is all in the space of a couple of months.
Secondly, and only two years after getting its world debut at the CV Show, the Volkswagen Crafter continues to play up to its size-ist credentials on the UK stage.
Officially the largest model in the present VW commercial range, the Crafter can haul up to 5.0-tonnes of tools, material or waste from one job to the next, and its practical dropside and tipper design provides the required flexibility to complete any task asked of it.
The single and double cab variants of the VW Crafter pull the crowds by boasting the same creature comforts and badge appeal enjoyed by the Caddy Maxi, leaving its 2.5-litre power plants to go about the business of pulling the loads.
