In the latest twist in the Porsche versus Ken Livingstone Congestion Charge battle, Porsche has released a study commissioned by Transport for London that shows carbon dioxide emissions rising under the proposed £25 per day charge.
The study, by Kings College London’s Environmental Research Group, is based on models that showed emissions of CO2, NOx, NO2 and PM10 rising under TfL's plans to charge £25 per day for 'gas-guzzling' SUVs entering Central London.
The Kings study showed that motorists would be more likely to drive around the C-Charge zone if the £25 per day charge were introduced, requiring longer journeys and consequently a rise in emissions by up to 184,000 tonnes.
But TfL immediately replied, indicating that the study was flawed and that Kings College had agreed to remodel its study, accepting that key calculations were wrong. TFL also indicated that it made Porsche aware of this fact.
Green groups have recently slammed Porsche for its C-Charge legal action, claiming the luxury sports car manufacturer is out of touch with the public.
Friend of the Earth's Executive Director Tony Juniper said: 'Porsche has clearly misunderstood public opinion, since the majority of Londoners support an increased congestion charge for the most polluting vehicles.
'People are recognising the urgency of cutting carbon dioxide emissions and the producers of gas-guzzling vehicles have got to face facts. It's high time Porsche stopped fighting popular initiatives and started manufacturing cleaner vehicles.'

Around 400 people a day risk damaging their car by misfuelling, and filling up with gas is a mistake that could cost thousands. So what do you do if you´ve filled up your diesel car with unleaded petrol?

Euro Car Parts has acquired Pinco 1555 Ltd, including all 53 of LSUK's 53 branches, together with subsidiaries M I Diesel Products, Protech Automotive (UK) and Yeovil Rewind.

Fuel protests similar to those that brought the UK to a halt in 2000 are being planned by a breakaway group of disaffected hauliers, according to press reports.

Euro Car Parts has put out a statement on the closure of LSUK, stating that a closure of the business was unavoidable due to a 'lack of support'.

LSUK, thought to have been rescused by Euro Car Parts, has been unexpectedly closed by the new owners with the loss of over 600 jobs.
