New Toyota Hilux gets more power this summer

Think Toyota. Think unbreakable. Think Hilux. Think utilitarian. Think new Toyota Hilux model. Think, well, unchanged, only with a bit more grunt. Going on sale this summer – with prices being announced nearer the time – the new-look Toyota Hilux is distinguished to the casual observer by its barcode alone.This new model derivative of the impenetrable Toyota Hilux is set to be unveiled at the Commercial Vehicle Show this coming weekend at the NEC in Birmingham.The Toyota Hilux Invincible – on which this beefed-up version is based – was designed and constructed to withstand conditions way more extreme than the North Circular, and made history by being the first car to drive to the magnetic North Pole in 2007.In a previous guise, an erstwhile Hilux was famously put through hell and high-water by the Top Gear team to determine just how indestructible it was. And it survived to tell the tale.To the new-look version though, and this slightly revised Hilux model will be the most powerful production pick-up punters in the UK can get their hands on. And they'll have to waste no time in registering their interest too, seeing as Britain will receive only 500 units.The 3.0-litre D-4D engine that already pops-up in the aforementioned Hilux Invicible is the donor engine on this occasion. However, if you thought that was the kiddie, then Hilux buyers will consider this as the kiddie's bullying alter-ego.
And that's because Toyota Motorsport have been twiddling with the diesel power train on this high-end model, and bolted a special performance kit on for good measure. Which provides the notable difference over the Hilux Invincible.The existing 0 – 62mph of 13.0 secs is as good as mugged - the new Hilux hits the magic number in 10.5 seconds. 11.4 seconds for the automatic version. Torque – which is kinda useful in this discipline – is upped from 252lb-ft to 317lb-ft – and sustainable from 1,600 to 3,200 rpm.A stainless steel mesh grille and redesigned 15” alloys mark out this Hilux's new exterior territory, whilst a new two-tone grey leather trim with heated front seats sets this apart from the Invincible.
