New Peugeot 308 SW prices and tech spec announced

The new Peugeot 308 SW will be available to buy from June in S, SR, Sport and SE derivatives, all of which have been lengthened and broadened over the 307 floor pan to provide more occupant and luggage space.

The new 308 SW has eight engines, including five petrol models - entry-level 95bhp 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre in its 120bhp, 140bhp, 150bhp and 175bhp finery - and three HDI diesels, including a 1.6-litre with 90bhp and 110bhp, as well as the 2.0-litre range-topper with 136bhp.

The four most powerful power plants (the entire engine range adheres to Euro 4 emissions standards) are blessed with a new six-speed transmission, whilst the oil-burners have particulate filter systems strapped to them.

Top-of-the-range 308 SW 2.0-litre HDI 136 Auto SE will cost Peugeot fans £20,845, which is a £1,300 premium over the equivalent 308 hatchback. More than that though, the equally observant will notice the cheapest entry level model isn't. Cheap that is. Not compared to the Hyundai i30 estate (starting from £12,999 for the 1.6-litre) and the Ford Focus estate (£14,150 in 1.6-litre form) if considered rivals – which effectively they are.

However, the 308 SW has two additional, fully adjustable thrones (with optional configurations across all four models) and a massive moon roof on digging that little bit deeper.

So the S and SR versions will have a steel roof panel and collapsing split rear benches, but the Sport and SE come with individual removable seats and a panoramic glass roof, but should still prove popular as it's 27 times larger than the one found on the farewell-acknowledging 307 SW. 27% larger that is. Plus Peugeot say its easier to function.

Standard kit covers the usual flush of airbags, electrics to govern windows, door mirrors and such like and the obligatory ABS, EBFD and EBA technical-hinting acronyms.

The individual trims add differing alloy circumferences, packages that help visibility, comfort and ambiance and infotainment gadgetry, whereas all new 308's are shod in energy saving, reduced roll resistant tyres.
