Hyundai Coupe TSIII is white out now
Published: 08 April 2008
The third generative of the Hyundai Coupe – the SIII - that affords many 2-seater sports car fans their first real taste of coupe-living, has undergone a Hyundai makeover and is now with UK dealers for a short period.
Emerging £3,000 worth of extra gimmicks and a little more youthful of appearance later, and the all-new TSIII top trumps the 2.0 SIII blueprint on which it was based and would make Trinny and Susannah gush.
Hyundai's tarting up of its current Coupe SIII ensures that it goes out on a high, prior to its Doctor Who moment next year when it returns in its new coat tails. Whether that's in the more provocative Genesis Coupe attire, or the slightly less risqué Coupe strip, Hyundai fans will have to wait and see.
Making it a hard act to follow in 2009 come what may, cult-ish attention has been paid to the way the Coupe TSIII sits, sounds, feels, smells and the way it generally looks. The only time Hyundai’s designers must have been blindfolded was when walking past the engine store cupboard, as there's a lot of new and different ornamentation but absolutely no change in the power plants.
The single model TSIII Coupe houses a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC petrol engine that develops 141bhp discovered in the current coupe range. Which means it still snorts its way to 62mph in 9.3 seconds and is good for 129mph flat out.
However, lowered sports suspension and 17” anthracite-polished alloys, quad exhaust pipes for a throatier rasp, cushy quilted leather sports seats and matching door trim, fresh air-con with climate control and a raft of TSIII branded merchandise that spills onto the chrome sill guards, metal-brushed foot pedals, steering wheel, centre console and air vents and i-Pod compatibility effectuates exclusivity being a badge marked TSIII.
The
fact that strictly only 40 Hyundai Coupe TSIII's will initially make
it to UK showrooms, followed by a further 40 later in 2008 enables it
to preserve its unique sheen.
With all the colours of a Mars rainbow, the exterior sheens include Rose Red, Crystal White, Carbon Grey and Stone Black and set the Coupe to go out on a high.
