Mitsubishi Outlander mid-size SUV offers SST twin-clutch technology
Inclined to make smooth transitions to'ing and fro'ing gradients

The Mitsubishi Outlander will come equipped with the Lancer Evolution X's Twin-clutch SST (Sports Shift Transmission) from 2009.
The Outlander 2.2 Di-D Twin-Clutch SST will be the first SUV in the history of gravel-grinders to harness sequential shifting – Toyota, Honda and VW rivals don't offer a diesel-configured automatic powertrain in Europe – and is due to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in October.
The optional Sports Shift Transmission technology automatically pre-selects the Outlander's next gear and delays switching until the driver changes up on the paddle shift; thus enabling the second multi-plate clutch to engage. Smoothly. Efficiently. And rapidly.
A significant minimisation of power loss whilst performing gear changes, improvements with regard fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions over traditional automatic transmissions typify SST, says Mitsubishi.
Car manufacturers increasingly popular craze for paddle shifting has found its way into Outlander territory too, and two modes of driving - normal and sport - and the inclusion of Hill Assist will further improve the driving ability.
Facing up to the UK public this time next year, prices have yet to be confirmed.
