Electric Tesla Roadster to Europe by 2009

The all-electric Tesla Roadster sports car could be on European roads by 2009.
Tesla is speeding up production of its two-seater EV for export to capitalise on the struggling US economy and resulting weak dollar.
The Roadster could be on sale in Europe by Autumn 2009 from around €100,000 (£70,000), but the Tesla EV will not appear in the UK in the short term, due to issues with creating right-hand drive models.
The Tesla's chassis is based on the Lotus Elise and is manufactured by Lotus in the UK, but battery packs are manufactured in California.
Production is currently limited to 250 per month, meaning a European site could be brought on-line to cope with demand. The Roadster is already sold out for 2008 and the first of 2009.
The Roadster can accelerate to 60mph in 3.9 seconds before topping out at 125mph. A range of 221 miles is possible on a full charge.
