Toned up and turned on Vantage GT2
Published: 01 April 2008
After several tests in the black livery at the tail end of last year, the Vantage GT2 has been outed by parents Aston Martin wearing orange lippy and eye-liner and ready to mix it up in the Le Mans Series opener in Barcelona on 5 April.
Set to stir up more aggro than a bull in a china shop when it takes to the track, this life-size 480bhp Aston Martin slot car will be sporting the colours of James Watts Automotive when it's unleashed.
Based on the V8 Vantage, the 4.3-litre GT2 is the company's first race car designed from scratch to run on bioethanol, and follows hot on the hooves of the Vantage DBRS9 that became the first bioethanol car to take the chequered flag in a round of the British GT championship staged at Snetterton in June 2007.
The GT2 completes Aston Martin Racing's current crop of cars displayed in its GT cabinet, and revolves around the GT1, GT3 and GT4. In turn this allows Aston to rub shoulders with the mega-powered competition in all four of the FIA GT Championships in 2008.
Other representation is equally forthcoming from the Aston's DBR9 in GT1, DBRS9 in GT3 and Vantage N24 in GT4.
The GT2 doesn't hang round long enough to gather dust, yet can purr just as contentedly on bioethanol as it does on the oil-based stuff. Giving Aston the green light to compete in far more race series, the bio-ethanol fueled version of the Vantage GT2 was tickled and prodded in its DBRS9 developmental stage with the help of motorsport consultancy Prodrive, who effectively oversee Aston Martin Racing.
