Volvo V50 Sportswagon and R-Design now with three-year warranty
Published: 13 March 2008
The V50 Sportswagon has been Volvo's most willing performer in the UK since its inception in 2004, with some 23,000 of the versatile estates transporting trunk-fulls of items that would embarrass lesser load-carriers.
Now - and representing a saving of approximately £700 to British punters - the cosmetically improved V50 comes with three years free servicing on all models in its range; a range that starts to excite at £17,484 OTR for the 1.8 R-Design Sport and provides an unadulterated thrill with the £21,117 T5 R-Design.
The three-years (37,500 miles or 54,000 miles – dependent on the engine) free servicing can be taken advantage of when snapping up any new model registered at authorised manufacturer dealerships.
Labour charges for all scheduled servicing are waived as part and flat-pack parcel of this Volvo incentive which elastically stretches to cover a comprehensive range of parts.
Filters are particularly given a good seeing to with regularity – including the air, diesel fuel, diesel particulate, pollen and oil filters - alongside of spark plug replacements and brake fluid and washer fluid top-ups.
Volvo's offer is attached to the car and in the event of a change of ownership the savings are passed on to the new incumbent, providing this transaction takes place within the three year period.
The V50 went under the manufacturer's knife in May 2007, with dynamism, along with further practicality and safety being the prime motivators for change.
Having years taken off its appearance, yet having a few surgical enhancements put in place - a streamlined grille and headlamp configuration, and a distinctive nose job resulting in a three-part front air intake - gave the V50 new found confidence amongst its peers, and the addition of slimmer tail lights equipped with LED brake lights trimmed pounds of its rear stance.
With a continued brief to sex-up the V50, the R-Design range was introduced toward the end of last year and incorporated a breadth and depth of exterior and interior design flourishes that were compatible with both Sport and SE Sport models.
Colour-coordinated body styling, R-Design badgery, spoilers, silver finishes administered here and there and unique 17 and 18” five-spoke alloys turned a few heads out on the road.
Inside there's two-tone black and cream upholstery with seamstress-originated R-Design thread work, flashes of leather on the steering wheel, mood-setting blue lighting found on the instrumentation and some bare metal aluminium cheek regularly popping up on surfaces.
