Winging its way to North London now
Published: 28 March 2008
Rubber-stamped by statisticians at the Guinness Book of Records as officially the world's-fastest production car, an example of this earth-axis destabilising Shelby Super Car Ultimate Aero has found its way to UK shores this week.
A luxury British car dealer is the first to have the SSC in its showroom in North London - and the Ultimate Aero is available from a credit-crunch oblivious £400,000.
With 1183bhp on tap, 62mph winced at in an equilibrium-unsettling sub-three seconds and the driver set to wrestle with 250mph, the SSC Ultimate Aero is clearly automotive insanity. A twin-turbo V8 block of Semtex results in an explosive 1094lb-ft of torque that strongly supports evidence that suggests it needs to be sectioned.
The catchily-named Shelby Super Car Ultimate Aero also bears the title of being the most powerful production car on the planet at the moment too – 2,750lbs and a power to weight ratio of 949bhp per ton.
The generously appointed - for typically spartan super cars stripped to the bare necessities - interior of the SSC is a good place to find yourself holed up, once you've negotiated the gull-wing doors. You get mega music, top notch air-con, wide-screen sat nav and custom-made Recaro leather seats for your sizeable investment.
Until recently the accolade of being the world's fastest production car was held by the Bugatti Veyron owned by the Volkswagen family, although a British upstart by the name of Keating is presently attempting to steal its thunder, albeit with Freemasonic levels of secrecy surrounding its T-KR super car.
