Skoda Octavia Scout - good when used. Luckily there are 2m of them
Published: 12 March 2008
With parent company Volkswagen having pulled the strings behind the scenes for a while now Skoda has gained a reputation for solid and reliable products - specifically with regard to the Octavia.
This week that has been reflected in voting amongst subscribers to AM magazine, which represents franchised motor dealers as well as independents in the automotive aftermarket throughout the UK.
Industry experts on the officiating panel awarded the Octavia accumulative points based on everything from its high specification list and capacious interior space to its versatility and functionality as a family car, through to its overall value for money in the fiercely-contested used-car market.
The perpetual range of variants in the Octavia range – the estate, the high-performance vRS and the 4X4 Scout alongside the large hatchback - also appeals to fleet organisations, who simultaneously report stronger residuals than ever before
• Elsewhere, and during what's fast becoming a frantic news week for Skoda, its 2 millionth Octavia has been boxed and selloptape-gunned at the end of an incredibly fertile production line in the Czech republic.
The model in question was a confetti-covered Octavia Scout 2.0 TDI. Since last year the Skoda Octavia has been manufactured under license in China and badged the 'Ming Rui', which is a slight improvement on what its been christened in India – Laura - where it's also constructed.
Both the original and current Octavia can be purchased in 4X4 guise, whilst the present incumbent comes in additional vRS and off-road Scout capabilities.
