Renault has debut new GT versions of the Laguna Hatch and Sport Tourer at the Geneva Show, due to launch next month in the UK.
The models are available with a 205bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine or 180bhp 2.0-litre diesel and will include sports styling tweaks such as lateral air-intakes and larger front grille, new 18-inch alloy wheels, smoked rear light clusters and black background to the headlamps.
The diesel 2.0 dCi engine has a peak torque of 300lb-ft available from 2,000rpm to 5,000 rpm, sprinting to 62mph in 8.5 seconds, returns a combined 36mpg and emits 172g/km.
The petrol model develops 220lb-ft of torque from the two-litre 16-valve unit, accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds and returns 28.6mpg, emitting 194g/km reckons Renault.
Inside the theme continues with GT-embossed leather/alcantara sports seats, drilled aluminium pedals, aluminium gearknob and GT steering wheel.
Renault says the Laguna GT offers a unique combination of driving pleasure, peace of mind and affordability, backed by a three-year/100,000 mile warranty.
An Active Drive chassis with four-wheel-steering means that at speeds of less than 38mph the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the front wheels up to an angle of 3.5° for smaller turning circles and smaller steering wheel angles.
From 38mph the rear wheels turn simultaneously in the same direction as the front wheels, to enhance stability, and prevents the rear end sliding outwards around bends, raising the safe cornering speed.
The Renault Laguna Hatch or Sports Tourer GT are available with a three-year/100,000 mile warranty, with prices announced nearer the release date of April 2008.
