A new Megane Coupé Concept at the Geneva Motor Show, previewing a future production model.
The Megane Coupé shares Renault's new design philosophy as seen on the Laguna Coupé Concept last year, and features stunning dragonfly-wing doors and an interior with four separate seats.
Technology includes mobile-phone operated ignition and door locks, four-zone climate control, touch-screen multi-media players and ‘stop and start’ system
'This show car emphatically showcases the evolution at Renault Design. Its squatter proportions and powerful, energetic styling talk directly to the driver's senses; they say 'driving pleasure'. The spectacular, unprecedented door-opening kinematics add that little touch of magic which contributes to the dream factor associated with the automobile,' according to Patrick Le Quément, Senior Vice President, Corporate Design, not one to understate matters.
High-performance LED headlamps and foglamps, flowing shoulder line and squat rear-end suggest performance is a priority on the Megane Coupé, along with 21-inch aluminium alloy wheels equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, but how much of the Concept remains on the production model remains to be seen.
The cabin features independent front seats, 'ethereal' dashboard, aviator-style watches and analogue speedo and revs dial.
A three-zone multi-media console displays all journey-related information (navigation, radio, music, video, Bluetooth® telephone) and images from the mirror-mounted cameras.
The Mégane Coupé Concept is locked and unlocked using a Samsung F700 mobile phone which serves as a hands-free card and connects to the centre console. Both rear passengers benefit from a portable Samsung P2 audio/video multimedia player with touch screen which they can use to swap files using the mp3/video Bluetooth controls.
A four-zone climate control system allows each passenger to select individual temperatures.
The Mégane Coupé Concept is powered by a 200bhp, two-litre turbocharged petrol engine through a manual six-speed gearbox, accelerating to 62mph from a standstill in 7.2 seconds. Fuel consumption is 36mpg and emissions are 154g/km).
There's no word from Renault on when a coupé based on the Megane Coupé is likely to see the light of day, but it's likely to be well into 2009 before you see something that doesn't resemble this concept in any way, shape or form.
Don't expect anything remotely as exciting in a production model
