The most environmentally-friendly and unfriendly cars on the planet have ben announced, according to the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, with a number of superminis and hatchbacks widely available in the UK getting the green seal of approval.
The 'greenest vehicle' title was awarded to the Honda Civic GX - a car powered by natural gas available outside of Europe, while hybrid cars such as Toyota Prius and Honda Civic Hybrid also did well.
A number of small cars available in the UK such as the standard Honda Civic, Ford Focus, Toyota Yaris, smart fortwo, MINI Cooper and Honda Fit (known in the UK as Honda Jazz) also made the top ten.
The Volkswagen Touareg was revealed as the worst offender, beating even the Bugatti Veyron. SUVs and luxury cars make up most of the worst offenders.
The cars are ranked according to fuel economy and emissions.
