New Mi.To signifies new design style for Alfa
Published: 14 March 2008
Alfa has released the first pictures of its forthcoming supermini - the awkwardly-named Mi.To.
The name reflects two arms of Alfa Romeo's operations - Milan, where the car is styled, and Turin, where the car's built. Previously referred to as Junior, the Mi.To - a name that's grating on MotorTorque already - was also slated to be named Furiosa, a name that Alfa evidently did not think much of.
A range of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines spanning 90-155bhp will be introduced at first, with more powerful drivetrains being introduced later.
Built on a Punto Abarth platform, and taking some styling cues from the Alfa 8C Competizione - according to the Italian manufacturer - the Mi.To will indicate a shift in Alfa styling that will continue with a raft of new models planned for the end of the decade.
In a vague press release, Alfa promises three driver modes based conditions or the customer’s choice: Dynamic, Normal and All-Weather, the latter emphasising traction and control.
Alfa says performance and handling have been optimised to offer maximum driving satisfaction with stability systems as standard.
The Mi.To is expected to launch in June before going on sale in the UK early next year, with prices starting from around £12,000.
