Ssangyong is relaunching its Kyron, Rodius and Rexton with big savings after joining forces with new UK distributor.
A catalogue of import and distribution issues had previously hampered any progress Ssangyong had made in Europe.
That´s until the Korean manufacturer was snapped up by Koelliker UK toward the end of 2007, who wasted no time in tweaking the entire range, slashing costs and relaunching the brand.
The adaptable 5-seater Kyron SUV is available from £14,995 with aircon, ESP, Hill Descent Control, ABS and CD player. Transferring the power generated by 139bhp Turbo diesel to the tarmac is the job of the five-speed manual gearbox. A free-revving 228lb-ft of torque is delivered at 2,500rpm.
£16,995 gets you part-time four-wheel drive in the guise of the Ssangyong Kyron S 4WD. Find an additional £1,500 for the Mercedes-constructed 5-speed T-Tronic auto transmission.
The range-topping £22,495 Kyron 2.7 SPR delivers 163bhp of turbocharged common-rail diesel oomph; meting out a bruising 251lb-ft of torque at 2,525rpm.
The new Rodius MPV is capable of carrying seven people, with prices starting at £14,995 for the 270 S, powered by a The 163bhp 2.7-litre common-rail diesel. Remote keyless entry, speed-sensing door locks and climate control are standard.
The Rodius 270 ES is where its at if you fancy a bit more. Privacy glass, alloys and leather gets you results for £16,995. The 270 EX auto is £18,495 in 2WD form, £19,995 with 4WD.
The Ssangyong Rexton 4X4 starts at £19,995 for the 270 S - £2,600 less than last time the Rexton made an appearance in the UK.
The ability to tow 3.2 metric tons is assisted by a manual transmission and torque on demand four-wheel drive. ABS, ESP with Active Rollover protection (ARP), Hill Descent Control and climate control are standard.
The Rexton 270 S auto has the addition of cruise control and the Mercedes T-Tronic box. Rear roof spoiler and touch-screen audio and sat nav are optional.
Three year´s free servicing on all models, 60,000-mile warranty and finance options are available on the entire Ssangyong range.
Enough to tempt UK buyers back to Ssangyong? We´ll see.
