The Diahatsu Terios small SUV has been awarded four stars by Euro NCAP for overall adult occupant protection.
Knees and femurs of Terios drivers and front seat passengers were judged at risk by Euro NCAP, with the passenger compartment classed as unstable in the event of a collision, with the foot well sustaining deformation damage chiefly around the front and rear seats.
The Terios' child occupant protection garnered three stars from five, with rear child restraint fittings allowing for excessive head movement meaning the Terios was marked down for child protection.
Preventative measures found on the exterior of the Terios were judged to offer good pedestrian protection, with a rare three stars from four awarded. The bumper scored maximum points for the protection it offered to pedestrians' legs.
European safety testing body Euro NCAP says it will overhaul its rating system in 2009 to take account of continued poor scores for pedestrian protection on new cars.
The new Daihatsu Charade has received and three and four stars for child and adult occupant protection respectively, out of a maximum of five stars.
The new Hyundai i30 hatch has received a maximum five stars for adult occupant protection after the Korean manufacturer modified the design of the i30 to protect the legs of drivers.
The Mercedes ML-Class large SUV scored maximum points in impact test to be awarded a maximum five stars for adult occupant protection.
The new Renault Koleos small SUV has received a maximum five stars for adult occupant protection and four stars for child protection in Euro NCAP safety testing.
