Published: 28 January 2008
Mercedes has released the first pictures of the CLC small sports coupe.
Designed to take on the likes of the BMW 1- and 3-Series Coupe, and intended to replace the C-Class Sports Coupe, the new CLC is based on the outgoing C-Class platform, with the interior trappings of the newest iteration of Merc´s compact exec.
Four petrol and two diesel engines options will be available, with the 1.8-litre CLC 180K representing the first foot on the ladder and a 268bhp 3.5-litre V6 petrol model topping the range.
Six-speed manual boxes are standard, but a five-speed autobox is optional, with a seven-speed auto available on larger engines.
Gadget-wise there´s now a USB and iPod interface, while the new Comand multimedia system offers hard-disk sat-nav, Safety-wise ESP and front and rear parking sensors are standard on all cars.
Standard spec is SE, while a Sport guise is available with 18-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension, and Direct-Steer system to vary steering sensitivity depending on speed.
Expect to see the new Mercedes CLC in UK dealerships from June from around £20,000.
Underwhelming and rather penny-pinching effort from Mercedes. Will sell like hot cakes.
