Mazda has revealed the refreshed RX-8 four-door, four-seater sports coupe at the Detroit Auto Show.
The RX-8 gets a refreshed exterior and interior design, enhanced performance and the option of a new sport package.
The RX-8 is still powered by a twin-rotor RENESIS rotary engine, with the 228bhp model is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, revving up to 9000rpm. Off-the-line performance is improved by shorter gearing.
The new RX-8 gets restyled front and rear bumpers, twin circular LED rear lamps and larger exhaust pipes. 19" five-spoke wheels are designed to be reminiscent of the rotary engine.
A 300-watt Bose audio system with Centerpoint surround sound and AudioPilot noise compensation technology is now included, as is Bluetooth hands-free phone system and auto sensing xenon headlights and windscreen wipers.
Body rigidity is improved, while the rear suspension has been reconfigured for better handling and driveshaft rigidity is improved, says Mazda.
The new RX-8 will offer a sport package with sport-tuned suspension with Bilstein shock absorbers
Visually the sport package will add a new rear spoiler, side sills, fog lights and sports front bumper are added to give an aggressive appearance, along with 19-inch forged aluminum‑alloy wheels with high performance tyres.
Inside the model adds front Recaro sport seats with leather side bolsters and colour coordinated stitching to leather-wrapped parking brake handle, steering wheel and gear knob.
