Audi will debut the TTS Coupe and Roadster at the Detroit Motor Show this month, previewing the car before UK books open for orders in Summer 2008.
Powered by a 269bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, the TTS Coupe develops 258lb-ft of torque between 2,500-5,000rpm, covers 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and goes on to a limited top speed of 155mph. The TTS Roadster hits 62mph in 5.6 seconds.
The Coupe and Roadster styles return 29.7mpg and 29.3mpg respectively, and transmit power through a six-speed close-ratio manual box or optional S tronic dual-clutch autobox.
Notable features include new bi-xenon headlamps incorporating Audi LED strip daytime running lights, larger front air intakes and aluminium-style wing mirrors.
Deeper skirts and 18" alloys restyle the profile view, while four exhaust pipes will leave trailing motorists in doubt as to the TTS´s intent.
Inside Audi´s pocket rocket are deep-set Alcantara and leather combination sports seats, exclusive ‘S’ instruments with white needles, metal pedals and special aluminium trim elements.
quattro four-wheel-drive and upgraded steering and braking systems should keep the TT S glued to the road, while Audi´s magnetic ride adaptive damping system should make sure you´re not glued to the ceiling.
The magnetic ride system’s dampers are filled with a magnetorheological fluid containing minute magnetic particles that can be influenced by an electromagnetic field.
By applying a voltage to the system’s electromagnets, the viscosity of the fluid is altered by the affected magnetic particles, increasing resistance to damper movement to iron out pitch and roll when necessary, and reducing resistance when ride comfort takes precedence.
