The new Jeep Patriot will launch in the summer from £15,995 and combine SUV characteristics with the best of hatchback features, says Jeep.
Patriot Sport and Patriot Limited models will be offered in the UK and will feature a Volkswagen 138bhp 2.0-litre six-speed diesel engine through a manual box or a 168bhp 2.4-litre petrol lump with a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic box.
Safety features include side-curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Electronic Roll Mitigation and the ‘Freedom Drive I’ full-time four-wheel drive system.
Jeep believes that the Patriot will compete with hatchback territory because of its pricing, performance and economy.
The market segment has seen recent hatchbacks such as the Nissan QASHQAI blur the lines between traditional hatchbacks, MPVs and 4x4s, something Jeep believes will make people buy the Patriot.
“Small family cars with four-wheel drive systems are becoming more sought after as they offer better handling and enhanced safety on the road,” said Peter Lambert, Managing Director of Chrysler Group UK.
“The higher seating position of the Patriot, together with the new four-wheel drive system that automatically switches from front to four-wheel-drive as you drive round a bend or if you lose traction, offers drivers a real advantage in every day driving conditions.
“The Patriot is as much at home on wet and icy tarmac as on mud, sand or snow and still manages to achieve an impressive 42.2 mpg (on the combined cycle with the diesel engine).”
