The new Ford Transit will go on sale at the end of 2007 with increased power and payload, says Ford. P>
A 3.2-litre 198bhp (200PS) common-rail diesel developing 347lb-ft (470Nm) of torque will be added to the range with six-speed transmission and ESP.
An increase-capacity fuel tank has 108 litres and a regenerative diesel particulate filter is separately available.
The new Transit will be available with a GVM increased from 4.25 tonnes to 4.6 tonnes with both axles strengthened to accommodate 1,850 kg in the front and 3,300 kg in the rear.
These versions come with larger rear brake callipers, a heavy-duty hand brake lever, uprated rear springs and revised front and rear damper settings and a new front damper for the chassis cab.
"We know there are customers out there who are looking for more powerful engines for their long-haul deliveries," said Steve Kimber, commercial vehicles director, Ford of Britain.
"We´ve also identified a need for additional payload for customers delivering heavy goods, and I think it´s safe to say that we´ve accommodated these special needs with the new Transit derivatives that we´re launching here in Birmingham," he added.
Prices will be released later in the year.
