Aston Martin? James bond. The Shaguar? Austin Powers. Minis? Italian job. De Lorean? Doc Brown. Cars linked to movie characters are famous - and the Caterham 7 has its own following for the very same reason.
It is rumoured that the 1960s secret agent series, The Prisoner is to make a return to UK television screens. According to the television gossip mill, the Sky One television channel is working on a re-make of the series.
Caterham - the guys behind the iconic Caterham 7 race car - are standing by the telephones, waiting for the telephone call from the producers, in anticipation of delivering a set of the Caterham 7 models to the film set.
When choosing the car for the original series, Patrick McGoohan, said: "We needed a car for our hero. Something out of the ordinary. A vehicle to fit his personality. I test-drove it. This was it. A symbol of all The Prisoner was to represent: standing out from the crowd, quickness and agility, independence, individuality and a touch of the rebel."
It remains to be seen if the producers still see the Caterham 7 as the symbol of individuality and rebelling, or if the open-top roadster will be replaced by another make and model altogether. One thing is for sure: The top-end Caterhams can whip you from 0-60 in less than 3 seconds - and if that isn’t rebellious, we don’t know what is...
