Car industry 'at forefront' of green technology revolution

The automotive industry is well-placed to deliver clean-technology solutions across the whole of industry, according to a leading analyst.
Giles Hundleby of Ricardo UK said that requirements for the auto industry to clean up emissions, improve fuel consumption and make products hit value and reliability benchmarks has placed the auto industry at the cutting edge of new technology such as hybrid tech.
The results of hybridisation, such as electrical energy management and storage, are being shard across industry and could help in storing energy from renewable sources such as wind and tidal power.
"The automotive industry has the engineering competence and consumer product design and integration skills to make a significant contribution to the green tech revolution", said Hundleby.
"The established engineering processes, quality systems and manufacturing technologies of the automotive sector are probably amongst the most robust of any industry and have a proven track record in the cost-effective delivery of high value products world-wide."
