Mitsubishi announces healthy sales and profit for 2007

Mitsubishi has announced increases in sales and operating profit of 2.7tr yen (£13bn) and 108.6bn yen (£524m) respectively for 2007. Both figures are significantly up on Mitsubishi's figures for 2006.
The Japanese manufacturer says steady growth in sales over the past two years, favourable exchange rates and the supply of vehicles and parts to PSA Peugeot Citroen - most notable in the form of the Citroen C-Crosser and Peugeot 4007 SUVs - have contributed to the healthy outlook.
Cost reductions and a more profitable models mix in European markets are also indicated as positive factors in the results, helping to offset launch costs in North American markets.
The manufacturer sold 1,359,000 vehicles in 2007 - a 10 percent increase on 2006 - including 341,000 vehicles in Europe, an increase of 21 percent on the previous year.
Mitsu says that 2007 is the second fiscal year in a row where it has posted surpluses at all operating, ordinary and net profit levels.
Mitsubishi has premiered the Lancer Sportback at the Paris Show alongside the new made-in- Europe Colt supermini and Racing Lancer turbodiesel competition car.
Mitsubishi has released a teaser image for a mysterious new car that will debut at the Paris Motor Show on 2 October.
New Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X range is on sale now, including variants with 300, 330 and 360PS power outputs costing between £27,499 and £37,999.
The new Mitsubishi Evo X offers incredible performance and handling, but high cost twinned with under-par quality take the sheen off Mitsubishi's 'affordable supercar'.
The new Mitsubishi Lancer range starts from £12,499 for the forthcoming hatch, while saloon models start at £14,999.
