Land Rover Freelander 2 ascends the 100,000 production peak

17 months since the production run of the all-new Land Rover Freelander 2 commenced at the manufacturers Halewood plant in Liverpool, staff are celebrating the 100,000 model of the compact 4X4 to roll off the industrious assembly line.
2007 marked the first full 12 months of perpetual manufacture and subsequent sales, since the Freelander 2 was launched in the later part of the previous year.
The global appeal of the Freelander is indicated in export destinations far and wide, with emerging markets such as Russia, China and the Middle East accounting for a considerable volume of sales traffic in 2007.
Russians in particular are giving the Freelander 2 the thumbs up, with in excess of 12,000 units being delivered to customers there during the past 12 month period that in itself signifies a 95% improvement over the previous years figures. Statistically, this makes it the third largest market for the Freelander 2 after the UK and America.
As for the landmark 100,000 model - and currently negotiating shipping lanes and challenging land formations between the UK and the city of Surgut on Russia's central Siberian plateau - it's a Rimini Red 2.2-litre automatic diesel.
