Top 10 Supercars of Last Decade – Lamborghini Reventon

It’s day three of our unique guide to what MT consider to be the Top 10 Supercars of the last decade.

And after checking out the Morgan Roadster that pre-dates Methuselah, we’re brought things right smack, bang up to date with the Lamborghini Reventon. Which we can assure you isn’t made out of wood, doesn’t require fanciful facial hair to pilot and won't help you pull an Octogenarian. If that doesn’t take the wind out of your sails, then knuckle down and read on.

Lamborghini Reventon

Cost: 1 million Euros, plus VAT

Speed: 211mph

Claim to fame: Named after a famous bull that put paid to a famous matador. Other than that, an incredibly limited-edition master class in supercar education.

Why it gets our thumbs up: With only 20 manufactured, it's a fair bet that none of these will fall into the hands of a cock-sure Premiership Footballer.

The all-wheel driven 650bhp Reventon packs a 6.5-litre V12 power posing pouch, with 12 cylinders that conspire to mischievously instigate some 487lb-ft of torque, and launch the exclusive members-only club Reventon to the 62mph-promised land in 3.3 seconds flat. Oh, and it's got gull wing doors like proper supercars should.

First revealed at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, the Lamborghini Reventon (pronounced reh-ben-ton for reasons known only to the manufacturer) is a mid-engined supercar that holds the credit-crunch mockery-making title of currently being the world's most expensive set of wheels, costing £stupid. Or 1 million Euros once the fat lady sings.

Indicative sales of which will mean a few European vineyards, a couple of First Division football clubs and a chain of gentleman's club might change ownership in coming months, as the identity of 20 new Reventon drivers becomes clear.

Legend has it that the Lambo F-22 Raptor - the sort of transportation you need a pilot’s license for - was the DNA for the Reventon, yet the actual tissue, bone, cartilage and sinew was taken from existing Murcielago LP640.

Only the carcass in which it sits is constructed from papier mache. Well, a carbon fibre composite, whereby all exterior components are not duly weighed down by welds, but are instead glued down to alleviate downward force.

A carbon fibre chassis is glued down to alleviate downward force. Naturally, a G-Force Meter keeps the pilot up to date with fickle driving dynamics and longitudinal acceleration as they wrestle with Isaac Newton's most famous theory.
